The End FGM European Network, of which Aidos is part of, developed a six-point manifesto for the upcoming European elections, requesting candidates from EU Member States to support efforts to eliminate Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and gender-based violence.
The elimination of FGM is a key milestone for achieving the Sustainable Development Agenda’s Goal on Gender Equality (SDG 5.3), but despite some progress, the current pace suggests that the achievement of this goal remains distant.
The manifesto calls on candidates to commit to achieving the EU’s gender equality goals, including the elimination of gender-based violence and FGM, ensuring that the voices of communities affected by FGM are at the center of policy-making on this harmful practice, avoiding stigmatizing narratives, ensuring funds for associations working on this issue, prioritizing professional training in EU-funded programs and promoting a feminist and intersectional approach.
