The G7 summit in Borgo Egnazia, ended on the 14th of June, was followed carefully by Civil 7 (C7), the platform of Civil Society Organizations aimed at making proposals and requests to protect and promote gender equality, human rights, environmental protection, social and economic development and well-being for all people.
Growing inequalities, violations of human rights, threats to the planet, fragile global peace require all urgent multilateral cooperation. A “new peace agenda” is needed to overcome the current polycrisis, an agenda capable of guaranteeing a future with rights and sustainable development for all.
Gender equality should be at the heart of sustainable development by recognizing the impact of domestic work on women and girls, the need to eliminate gender-based violence and the importance of accessing sexual and reproductive rights, education and participation in all spheres of society for women and girls. However, more specific and concrete commitments for fulfilling these goals are missing; as well as more clear objectives, including economic ones, which would facilitate the monitoring process and accountability.
