The Council of Europe published its first Thematic Evaluation about Italy, a report that evaluates the implementation of some specific aspects of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence, known as the “Istanbul Convention”. The theme chosen for this first evaluation is “Building trust by providing support, protection and justice” to women survivors of domestic and gender-based violence, identifying developments in key areas such as policy, funding and data collection, evaluating the provision of more in-depth information on the implementation of prevention, protection and prosecution provisions, and bringing attention to emerging trends in the field of violence against women and domestic violence.
The Istanbul Convention provides for the establishment of a Group of independent experts called GREVIO (“Group of Experts on action against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence“), tasked with monitoring and evaluating, through periodic reports provided by the States, the measures adopted by the contracting parties for the purposes of the Convention.
Aidos, in collaboration with other women’s associations coordinated by D.i.Re – Women in the network against violence, presented the Shadow Report of this first thematic evaluation. The report highlights the delays in the management of funds for shelters, the gaps in data collection, especially regarding gender-disaggregated data, and the need to strengthen training activities for media and institutions’ staff on gender issues and gender-based violence.
