The 57th Commission on Population and Development (CPD) | Aidos

The 57th Commission on Population and Development (CPD) began this week. It will assess the implementation of the Programme of Action defined during the International Conference on Population and Development, held in Cairo in 1994, and its contribution to the monitoring and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

This year’s political declaration celebrates the 30th anniversary of this historic conference, which inscribed the centrality of sexual and reproductive health in sustainable development and enshrined the indispensable importance of these rights, retracing the achievements but underscoring the urgency of closing gaps and eliminating inequalities. Reaffirming their commitment to the full implementation of the Plan of Action and the follow-up of international and regional commitments, Member States with this political declaration are once again taking on the task of promoting sexual and reproductive rights, but further urgent action to increase funding for sustainable development and ensure the full enjoyment of these rights is needed.

AIDOS, present at the conference, is part of the International Coalition for Sexual and Reproductive Rights (ISSRC), which follows and monitors the work. On this occasion, ISSRC produced its own Political Declaration statement, adopted during CPD57.
