“Against All Odds” – il film prodotto da AIDOS che ha vinto il primo premio come cortometraggio documentario al Fespaco – è stato inserito nella selezione ufficiale del VisuElles Film Festival di Ottawa, Canada (11/13 ottobre 2019).
Il documentario racconta la storia vera di Charity, una ragazza della regione del Masai Mara in Kenya che aspetta con impazienza il giorno in cui sarà escissa e diventerà una donna, come le ragazze più grandi del villaggio. Ma un giorno a scuola vede un video che mostra i rischi e le conseguenze legate alle mutilazioni genitali femminili. Improvvisamente cambia idea sulla pratica e ne parla con i genitori. La madre sceglie di ascoltarla e di sostenerla nella sua scelta di non essere escissa, mentre il padre teme la reazione del villaggio, dove la pratica è la tradizione e la norma.
Il film è stato realizzato dalla stessa Charity Nampaso e da Andrea Iannetta, nell’ambito del progetto sostenuto dal Programma Congiunto UNFPA/UNICEF sulle MGF “Building Bridges – Costruire ponti tra Africa ed Europa per fermare le mutilazioni genitali femminili”.

“Against All Odds” – the film produced by AIDOS that won the first prize as best short documentary at Fespaco – will be screened within the framework of the VisuElles Film Festival in Ottawa, Canada (11/13 October 2019).
The documentary tells the true story of Charity, a girl from the Masai Mara region in Kenya. She is looking forward to the day when she will be cut and she will become a woman, just like the older girls in the village. One day, however, a film on the risks and consequences of female genital mutilation (FGM) is shown at her boarding school. Charity suddenly changes her mind. Her mother chooses to listen to her and to support her, while her father is scared about how people from the village might react.
The film was directed by Charity Nampaso herself with Andrea Iannetta, in the framework of the “Building Bridges between Africa and Europe to tackle female genital mutilation” project, supported by the UNFPA/UNICEF Joint Programme on FGM.
