With a commitment to women’s empowerment and gender equality and justice, the Civil20 Gender Working Group, in partnership with BRICS Feminist Watch, AIDOS and FEIM, will host a side event titled G20 and Women in rural areas: challenges and opportunities for Gender Equality during the upcoming C20 Summit. At this event, the challenges and opportunities facing women and girls in rural areas in terms of policies and actions to achieve gender equality will be discussed for greater commitment to ensuring that no woman or girl is left behind. The event will bring a south feminist analysis to the entire G20 process and will provide recommendations for G20 governments. The event will have experts to present on the following key issues:

Panel 1: Women in rural areas and large Infrastructure development projects (IFIs)

Panel 2: Women in rural areas and Renewable energy

Panel 3. Women in rural areas and Issues of Land and livelihoods, criminalization of women’s rights defenders

Panel 4: Women in rural areas: access to services and GBV

Each panel will see the participation of two panelists and will be moderated by a journalist. Each panelist gives one key recommendation on the topics discussed. The recommendations presented during the event will be condensed into a short advocacy document that will be sent to relevant stakeholders, such as the G20 presidency.
