Background<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Violence in intimate relationships among adolescents and young people has been given more space in the public debate during the last years, thanks to the work of civil society organizations and to the public stance taken by families of women victims of femicide. Younger people however often find it difficult to make the link between these topics and their everyday experiences. They are not aware that they are experiencing violence or situations that anticipate violence. Furthermore, often teachers lack resources for promoting a dialogue on the issue, or, in the worst case scenario, they can unwittingly perpetuate gender stereotypes, and downplay episodes of violence, since they do not have the adequate instruments for recognizing them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to a study of 2024<\/a>, 30% of adolescents claim that jealousy is a sign of love. Almost 1 in 5 think that in an intimate relationship a slap from time to time can be accepted. For younger people is even more difficult to understand more subtle signs of a toxic relationship, as constant demands for attention, lack of communication, breach of privacy, threats of self-harm, and control over the social relationships of the other person. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Intimate relationships are lived as an entanglement of on-line and in-person events, creating a dimension defined as onlife, which annul the distinction between public and private, often preventing the creation of a personal space – even when we are physically somewhere else, we can always be reached through messages, video-calls, geolocation sharing requests. Young people in toxic or violent relationships are not always sure whether there is something wrong, or they don’t know what to do for ending them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Objectives<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project aims at contributing to address gender-based violence, and especially violence in intimate relationships among adolescents, through activities of information, awareness-raising, and trainings for adolescents and the personnel working in schools in Italy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
