The project is\u00a0the follow-up to two\u00a0previous initiatives: Strengthen Italy’s commitment to support the Global Fund against AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (2015-2017) and \u201cEnsuring Italy\u2019s long-term support to the Global Fund and Global Health\u201d (2018-2020).<\/p>\n

PARTNERS<\/span>
\n<\/strong>The initiative is carried out in synergy with projects that other civil society organizations (CSOs) of the Global Fund Advocates Network (Gfan) are carrying out in their countries. In Italy, the project is coordinated by Aidos on behalf of the Global Health Italian Network, composed of 11 CSOs committed to protecting and promoting the right to health\u00a0for\u00a0all.
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

BACKGROUND<\/span>
\n<\/strong>In 2020, the Covid -19 pandemic spread all over the world with very severe consequences, also due to the so-called secondary impacts on other health emergencies. According to the Global Fund, decades of progress against HIV, TB and malaria are being derailed as a knock-on effect of the pandemic. The volume<\/em>\u00a0of\u00a0HIV testing has dropped<\/em>\u00a0by\u00a050<\/em>% in\u00a0some places <\/em>where the Global Fund invests, such as Burkina Faso and other countries of Sub-Saharan Africa. N<\/em>ew\u00a0TB case notifications have dropped by up to 75%,\u00a0and this could lead to an increase in new infections. Covid-19 negatively impacted the launch of mosquito nets distribution campaigns, delaying them and leaving people vulnerable to malaria, most of them children, because unprotected.<\/p>\n
